Join us to learn about the funding opportunities available to HCBC clubs, affiliates, branches and chapters. In this webinar we will cover the Infrastructure and Equipment grant, Education grant, BC Equestrian trails fund grant and our Newest grant the Trailhead Advocacy grant. HCBC helps to deliver Equestrian Canada coaching programs and we will touch on grants available to current coaches and coach candidates.

March 10th – Dr. Steve Chiasson: Acupuncture Treatment for Horses
Dr. Steve Chiasson, DVM, CVMA, is an accomplished equine veterinarian originally from Sydney, Nova Scotia. A graduate of the Atlantic Veterinary College with Honors in 1995, Dr. Steve has dedicated his career to advancing equine medicine, focusing on sports medicine and innovative technologies to enhance horse health and performance. In 2019, he became Canada’s first Certified Lameness Locator® Practitioner, highlighting his commitment to cutting-edge lameness diagnostics and treatment. He is also certified in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture and actively teaches equine acupuncture across North America.
In 2004, Dr. Steve co-founded Agwest Veterinary Group Ltd. and later established Horizon Equine Veterinary Clinic. Together with the Horizon team, he provides comprehensive care tailored to each horse’s unique needs. Outside of his veterinary work, Dr. Steve enjoys outdoor adventures and traveling with his wife, Rachael, while supporting their sons in their professional sporting endeavors across North America.
March 17th – Dr. Michelle Husulak: Equine Parasites: Best Practices for Treatment and Prevention
Dr. Michelle Husulak, DVM, MVetSc, DABVP (Equine Practice)
Lecturer/Clinical Faculty Member, Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, WCVM
After graduating from the WCVM’s veterinary program in 2012, Dr. Husulak completed an internship in large animal medicine and a residency in equine field service at the WCVM. She received her Master of Veterinary Science degree in 2016 and received board certification in equine practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 2019.
Dr. Husulak was a clinical associate in equine field service at the WCVM from 2016 to 2021, primarily going out on equine field service calls and teaching fourth-year veterinary students, interns and residents. In fall 2021, Dr. Husulak became a lecturer/clinical faculty member at the WCVM, which added lectures and teaching labs for veterinary students to her equine field service responsibilities. While Dr. Husulak finds all areas of clinical practice to be interesting and exciting, she especially enjoys equine dentistry.
March 24th – Dr. Erin Pinnell: Thermoregulation in Horses: Blanketing and Clipping in Context to your Environment
Dr. Pinnell graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary medicine in 2019. She then stayed at OSU to complete a rotating internship in equine medicine and started her research in Equine Metabolic Syndrome. Following her internship, she started an equine internal medicine residency at OSU, where she continued to participate in metabolic disease research with Dr. Teresa Burns. She completed her Master’s project on the effects of treatment on experimentally-induced insulin dysregulation, in which she has published her research and presented at both national and international conferences. Dr. Pinnell is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Medicine in Large Animal. She is currently an assistant professor of equine internal medicine at Washington State University, where she continues to focus her research on metabolic disease in horses.
