This program supports young Equestrian athletes across the country under the age of 25. The program is designed to help identify those who have the potential in becoming Canada’s next generation High Performance athletes. Funding for the program has been graciously provided from the J.C. Anderson Family Foundation, and the J.C. Anderson Legacy Fund through the Calgary Foundation and Alberta Sport Connection Donation Program. The program is administered by Alberta Equestrian Federation.
John Anderson, a previous show jumping athlete with the Canadian Equestrian Team, and owner of Rocky Mountain Show Jumping in Calgary, Alberta has helped make this funding and program possible.
The J.C. Anderson Legacy Medal is a jumper equitation Medal series with classes held at competitions across the country at the 1.20m – 1.25m technical height. The top 10 athletes from each region were invited to compete during the National Final Series held at prestigious competitions throughout Canada. Each final round was judged in real-time at the competitions, as well as video recorded and judged by a panel of senior judges. $32,500 in athlete development bursaries will be awarded, with Emma Woo, the National Champion from Surrey, BC, receiving a $10,000 bursary for training and competition. Bursaries are distributed to athletes through the AEF and the athletes’ respective Provincial/Territorial Federation. Emma, a sixteen year old, competes on her 8 year old Zangersheide gelding, Hello Harry Z, by Dersenaat III, out of Louisiana Z. Emma has been riding for the past 5 years in Aldergrove, B.C., with coach Ashley Papalia of Papalia Training.
