Dear HCBC Member,

I hope this message finds you well. The Board of Directors and senior staff of the Horse Council of British Columbia (HCBC) have been evaluating the future of our current property at 27336 Fraser Highway, Aldergrove. As part of this process, we have carefully considered the building’s age, increasing maintenance costs, evolving office space needs, and other operational challenges.

After thorough analysis, including obtaining statements of value for the property, financial modeling, and consultations with tax specialists, the Board is considering the sale of the building. The sale proceeds would fund a more suitable property for HCBC’s current operational needs and establish an endowment fund to support future grant programs.

We value the input of our members and ask for your feedback on this important decision. Below, I’ve highlighted key considerations that have shaped this recommendation:

  • The building requires significant repairs and upgrades, with initial estimates ranging from $300k-$500k.
  • Property management issues and rising crime in the Aldergrove area are increasingly demanding staff time and resources.
  • The mandate from the membership to have staff remotely working throughout the province has reduced our need for large office space.
  • The sale could potentially generate $4M or more, with part of the funds creating an endowment to support HCBC’s future programs.

We invite your thoughts on this proposal, as your input is essential in ensuring we move forward with a decision that best serves our community. Please take a moment to review the full discussion paper and share your feedback with us by March 24, 2025.
