Recreational Advisory Committee (RAC)
ADVOCATES FOR RECREATION
With approximately 76% of our members participating in recreational activities Horse Council BC strives to provide resources and programs designed to help recreational riders enjoy their riding safely and responsibly. HCBC is a strong advocate for the recreational rider and for preserving the right to ride on trails in communities, parks, and other recreational and wilderness areas throughout B.C. Whether in the ring or on the trail recreational riders are valued members of Horse Council. By working together, it is Recreational Rider Volunteers who will supervise and coordinate all programs, services and activities relating to the enjoyment of horses offered through the HCBC office.
Our Purpose:
The Recreational Advisory Committee was created by the HCBC Recreation Department to assist and advise the Vice President Recreation and HCBC staff with the development of programs and ideas that will benefit the recreational rider and provide value to membership in the organization. The committee will be a sounding board for riders across the province of B.C., and be advocates of those recreational riders and the volunteers who help support riding programs.
Areas of Engagement:
The Recreation Advisory Committee will have broad leeway to work with all riding disciplines, clubs and reeds to promote the horse industry and the pleasure of recreational riding and owning of a horse(s). It will advocate for healthy lifestyles through outdoor equestrian recreation. It acknowledges that some activities may overlap with other groups and committees.
The committee may be involved with (but not limited to): Riding Clubs, Ride and Drive Program, Horse eek, Road Safety, Trails, Therapeutic Riding, Equine Tourism, Outdoor Recreation Council, Education programs such as Leave No Trace, Invasive Plant Awareness, Wildlife Awareness, Lighting, and the Equine Canada Recreation Council. It can also act as a resource to local government and community recreational programs.
