Dear Members,

Horse Council BC is a membership driven association representing the diverse interests of the equine industry in BC. We strive to be accountable for the services and programs that we offer ALL our members.

Many of you may have heard via social media or traditional media the story of Katie. She is the young woman whose claim was denied by the insurance provider of the Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance that is provided with a Horse Council BC Membership through Capri Insurance.

Horse Council BC is not a part of or privy to any information about the status of claims unless a member shares that information with us, as was the case with Katie. Capri Insurance as the broker is currently assisting Katie in her claims process with the insurance company (SSQ Insurance). Since learning of this incident on November 27, 2015, HCBC has learned that Capri Insurance has made a voluntary contribution to Katie’s financial recovery – and we applaud their quick response.

Many of you have come to us with questions regarding the insurance program and we would like to continue to do our best to inform you of what your HCBC membership includes. Over the years, Capri Insurance and HCBC have worked together making available many tools to help communicate with you, the member, about insurance products that are offered with Individual HCBC Membership. These include:

HCBC membership automatically includes:

  • $5,000,000 Personal Liability Insurance underwritten by Lloyds of London
  • $30,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance underwritten by SSQ Insurance Company

Horse Council BC is committed to our members and will be conducting a full review of the membership program over the coming months to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of the BC equine community in 2017. This review will include the insurance products provided as inclusions with the membership plus the optional insurance products.

Horse Council BC wants to assure our members that we are listening and understand the concerns expressed. We are working hard to preserve your confidence and trust in Horse Council BC. Staff and HCBC volunteers work very hard on behalf of BC’s horse community. Our mandate includes sport and recreation, agriculture, industry, education, grant funding, club support, government liaising and various participant programs.

We are confident that you will find value in your 2016 Horse Council BC membership.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact our office directly toll free at 1-800-345-8055 or at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Horse Council BC Board of Directors, Staff, and Volunteers
